SAN ANTONIO – June 3, 2010 – Cinco Solar has been honored as the recipient of the Bill Sinkin Solar Technology Award, in recognition of the outstanding solar thermal system the company installed at the Army Residence Community (ARC) in San Antonio.
As one of the City of San Antonio 2010 Green Building Awards, the Bill Sinkin Solar Technology Award recognizes extraordinary solar thermal projects installed in or near the City of San Antonio.
Cinco Solar’s winning project, a state-of-the-art thermal system, provides solar heated water for the 13-story military retirement building and its 198 apartments, and is providing meaningful results to its residents and management.
The 176-collector system generates an approximately six percent monthly payback on the initial investment, utilizes multiple storage tanks to allow the system to operate more efficiently, and contains a control system to maximize system performance.
“We are thrilled to be recognized for our drive and dedication with this project. Not only has our work drastically cut energy expenses for the ARC, but it has also shown the community an example of clean technology in action,” said Hollis Fitch, chief executive officer of Cinco Solar.
The solar thermal system at the ARC was a groundbreaking installation in the San Antonio community. At the time of commissioning, the collector system at the ARC was the largest evacuated tube solar thermal system in Texas, and one of the largest in the United States.
Since this project, Cinco Solar has commissioned a larger 216-collector system at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center, which will replace the ARC system as the largest in Texas. Cinco Solar will continue to strive for responsible building and clean technology practices.
